Project Details
The Highway 29 Realignment and Bridge Replacement project, part of BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project, involved a significant $104.6-million investment to improve transportation infrastructure in northeastern British Columbia. Awarded to the Eiffage-Infracon Halfway River Joint Venture, the contract included the construction of 3.7 kilometres of new two-lane highway and a 1.0-kilometre-long bridge crossing the Halfway River, supported by 12 piers. This major realignment effort was a critical component in supporting regional development and facilitating long-term energy project logistics.
Inline Group was engaged by both partners of the Joint Venture to deliver a range of technical services integral to the project’s success. Our team provided comprehensive surveying, materials testing, and design support across each partner’s scope. Surveyors on the ground managed layout and as-built data for road and bridge components, including precise placements of rebar, anchor bolts, masonry plates, and precast panels. Meanwhile, our AutoCAD Technicians at head office worked in sync with field crews to develop layout files, produce accurate as-builts, and support evolving design needs.
As our largest concrete project to date at the time, the job site demanded extensive quality control and testing. Inline’s Materials Technicians—both in-field and in-lab—conducted rigorous sampling and analysis of soil, concrete, and asphalt. Given the sheer scale of the bridge piers, an exceptional volume of concrete testing was required. Our teams performed continuous sampling, monitoring, and strength testing on hundreds of cubic metres of poured concrete to ensure every element met strict durability and performance standards. Our in-house Engineers also completed Plate Load Testing and performed data interpretation to ensure structural integrity throughout construction. With involvement in nearly every phase of the build, Inline Group was proud to help deliver this landmark project to the highest quality standards.
