Project Details
The Eureka Weather Station and Research Base, located near the 80th parallel on Ellesmere Island, is one of the most remote communities in the world—second only to Alert, Nunavut. Established in 1947, the base has long served as a vital hub for climate and atmospheric research in the Canadian High Arctic. Operating with limited access and reliant on periodic air deliveries and diesel-powered infrastructure, Eureka presents extreme logistical challenges for any construction effort. To modernize the site, upgrades include the reconstruction of the runway and the installation of new water and sewage systems. Because of its isolation and harsh conditions, construction can only occur during a brief summer window from June to September, requiring detailed coordination and phased execution over multiple years.
Inline was selected by Nuna to provide geomatics and geotechnical services essential to the success of this uniquely challenging project. Our survey team delivered precision support for construction layouts and as-builts, ensuring accuracy despite Arctic constraints. We also conducted volume and quantities tracking to assist with phased material management. Inline’s materials technicians provided compaction and soil testing for foundations, runway development, and utility installations. To complement field operations, our UAV specialists performed aerial mapping, photography, and video documentation to capture progress and site conditions throughout each phase. AutoCAD design and drafting support integrated survey and testing data into comprehensive project records, enabling real-time decision-making for the client.
Operating in 24-hour daylight, extreme weather, and remote conditions, Inline’s crews adapted to challenges such as limited connectivity and encounters with Arctic wildlife. Their commitment and adaptability ensured high-quality results in one of the harshest environments, making this project a true demonstration of Inline’s adaptability.
