Project Details
The Tawatina Bridge was a key component of the 13-kilometre first phase of the Edmonton Valley Light Rail Transit project. Designed as a cable-stayed, concrete box girder bridge with a pedestrian walkway, it spanned the North Saskatchewan River in three sections. Valued at $391 million, the bridge was constructed using a mix of cast-in-place falsework and a form traveler system that allowed it to be built one segment at a time. This monumental piece of infrastructure marked a major milestone for the City of Edmonton and became a lasting addition to its skyline and transit network.
Inline Group provided critical support throughout the Tawatina Bridge project by delivering continuous construction monitoring services. Our high-precision survey control network was instrumental in ensuring the bridge aligned properly on both sides of the river and played a key role in project scheduling, as track rail installation was tied directly to bridge construction milestones. The fact that all elements tied together seamlessly was a major feat and a testament to the accuracy and reliability of our control systems. Working in tight and demanding conditions, our surveyors applied innovative strategies to support construction from the base up to the top of the bridge piers. Inline coordinated closely with the client and all trades on site to uphold the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and quality throughout the course of the project.
